Hall 1819 - 1879
Matthew Hall married Annie Matticott b 1/11/1828 d 9/10/1911 from Devon. (We believe she was christened Ann Susannah). We believe the first five children were from a previous wife. Matthew died in India 10/3/1879. Supposedly he owned the Hall Shipping Line, later the Ellerman City and Hall Line. He went bankrupt about 1866 and his wife went down to the workhouse in West Ham where Edmund was born. Septimus was also in the workhouse with them.

Hall 1867 - 1943  
Frederick Hall went to America circa 1910. Septimus was a prisoner in Wandsworth in 1901 and his wife was born in Belgium. Edmund, originally born in the workhouse, rose to be the Mayor of Leytonstone. He also ran the voluntary fire service, in which most of the sons were drafted. This was nationalized at the beginning of WWII. Of the others we know nothing definite.

We believe the whole family went to Canada. Fredrick Hall b1885 in Ireland later served in a Canadian regiment and was killed in the first world war being awarded the VC posthumously. We think the male line in Canada has died out as the sons of Fredrick either had no children or daughters.

We have little knowledge but the children seem to be living with other family members when the father was in Prison. Of these we know little other than that Matthew b1888 went to America and served in the US Army during WWI.

Edmund Matticott Hall b1867 married Martha Fox in 1896 and had seven children, above. Edmund b1896, won the MC in the WWI and was connected with the entertainment business. Cyril was in banking. Harold went to Singapore. He was in the police and was taken prisoner by the Japanese and spent time in Changi. He later went to Australia. Lou was a Punch and Judy man and ran a shop in Rayleigh, Essex. Annnie stayed in Leytonstone where she took over the role of registrar of births, deaths and marriages from her father. Freddie was a ballet dancer at Covent Garden and later ran a ballet school with his life long partner Jimmy. Percy (known as Pat) was a commercial artist. Cyril and Fredie had no issue. Edmund a son and a daugther. Lou had one daughter. Harold one son and Annie one son.

Pat married Isobel(known as Babs) Vince in 1938. They had three children, the second was born a fortnight after Edmund b1867 died and was given his name of Edmund Matticott. Edmund b1943 then married Ann who was given the wedding ring of Ann(ie) Matticott Hall. Of the third generation descended from Edmund b1867 there is only one male James son Alan and grandson of Edmund b1896.

Antony and Rosie both married but had no children. Edmund b1943 has two daughters but as yet no grandchildren. The youngest Judy is currently studying in Australia. Alan b1937? has one? son James who is the only male of the line to carry the name on.
